Canvas Parent App Instructions
Canvas is the Learning Management System that most SHS students will use to view and submit their classroom assignments for their in-person and digital days. All SHS students are assigned an account and parents are eligible to have an “observer” account which gives them access to view their student’s courses, assignments, due dates, etc. It is highly encouraged that parents set up this account. Additionally, this year the SHS Counseling Office also has a page on Canvas which parents can access through an observer account. For more information and instructions on how to create your observer account, please click here.

College Application Assistance
The SHS school counselors will be meeting with students for senior meetings throughout September. During these meetings, students interested in applying to post-secondary schools will learn more about the process. For students and parents that may want to start this process before these meetings or need a refresher following their meeting, assistance can be found by way of a video playlist detailing the application process using Naviance. The link for this playlist is located below.

Letters of Recommendation
In addition to the information provided in the College Application Assistance tutorial, students requesting letters of recommendation will be required to complete the “Letters of Recommendation Send Request Form.”
This form was developed last year to ensure that the correct letter of recommendation is sent to the respective school that the student lists on the form. Many schools have a maximum number of letters of recommendation and this way students can effectively select which letters they want to go to which school.
Due to COVID-19 limiting the interchange of paper, this form will be completed online for the 2020-21 school year. It was shared with students and parents via email but can also be found below.

Virtual College Visits
As always, SHS is proud to partner with many colleges to offer visits from admissions representatives to provide our students valuable information about different schools. Now, more than ever when on-site visits may not be possible, we encourage students to take advantage of these visits which will be virtual. Students can sign up on Naviance for these visits and attend a meeting through Google Meets/Zoom in the library classroom while meeting social distancing requirements. To date, there are already 30+ colleges which have signed up for these visits offering options on both A- and B-days. For a list of colleges that are scheduled to visit and when please click here.

Instant Decision Days
The SHS Counseling Department has partnered with a number of colleges to provide on-site admissions events here at Susquehannock High School titled Instant Decision Days (IDD). Interested senior students will need to apply online to the school one to two weeks before the school’s IDD event.
On the day of the school’s IDD event an admissions representative will meet one-on-one for an interview with registered students through Google Meets/Zoom. The representative will discuss the status of the student’s application and other factors. Rather than having to wait weeks to find out a decision, the student can find out instantly whether or not they are accepted to that school!
In October, SHS is partnering with Shippensburg University (10/6 & 10/8), Millersville University (10/13 & 10/15), Kutztown University (10/27 & 10/29) and York College (10/5 & 10/9) for these events. Each school has kindly offered an A-Day and B-Day event for our students. Interested students should see their counselor and/or sign up through Naviance.
