On Wednesday, April 6th at 6:00 p.m., the SHS counselors and administrative team will be covering topics for current 11th grade students during the Rising Seniors: What to Expect Night. Please click here to view topics of discussion.
AP Payment Information:
Final payment for Advanced Placement (AP) Testing is due by Monday, April 25, 2022. All families with a balance due have received an invoice through MySchoolBucks (MSB). You can pay the remaining balance for each exam online through MSB using a credit card, or you can pay by cash or check (made out to SHS) turned in to the SHS Counseling Office. If payment is not received in full by April 25th, your student will not be able to take the test. If you are experiencing financial difficulty paying the remaining balance please contact the SHS Counseling Office at 717-235-4811 x4520.
If you want to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school, you must meet NCAA Eligibility Center Academic initial-eligibility requirements. Please reference the NCAA information section of the SHS Counseling Office website for more information. Information on setting up an account, the college-bound student athlete guide, division I and II checklists and worksheets, and other helpful information can be found here.

The applications for spring Career Exploration Programs through YCAL are now available!

The York County Alliance for Learning has just opened registration for 14 in-person career exploration programs occurring this spring.  These programs are extremely helpful for students to get an understanding of different career fields, learn about the training and schooling necessary for a variety of careers, and connect with professionals working in that industry. These visits can also be used to satisfy graduation project field experiences; students should pick up a form in the counseling office prior to attending if they want to verify attendance for graduation project. Click https://bit.ly/3u2U8eS for a list of the spring programs offered and to register.  Many programs fill fast, so early registration is recommended.  More information on each program can be found at https://ycal.us/students/mentoring-program/.

Field Experience Reminder

Attention Juniors!  You are required to complete two field experiences your junior year to satisfy graduation project requirements.  These field experiences can consist of a college or trade school visit (either in person or virtual), a job shadow, attendance at a career speaker, attendance at the college and career fair (happening March 10th), or a part-time job.  Once you have completed the experience, you will need to write a reflection (found here) and upload it into Naviance.  Both field experiences need to be completed and uploaded by March 16, 2022. There can be up to five days of excused absences for college visits/job shadowing.

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is continuing to offer services and assistance to students and their families. There are a variety of interventions and programs available, including counseling assessments through True North, school-based counseling through Pennsylvania Comprehensive Behavioral Health (PCBH), and monitoring and mentoring programs through the school. If you are interested in any of these services, please contact your child's school counselor.

As always, SHS is proud to partner with many colleges to offer visits from admissions representatives to provide our students valuable information about different schools. We are resuming in-person visits this school year, but will also be conducting virtual visits as well.

Students can sign up on Naviance for these visits. For a list of colleges that are scheduled to visit and when please click here.
Every month, the SHS Counseling Office will create a scholarship bulletin with a list of scholarship opportunities.
