Students that took the PSAT at SHS gained access to their scores on Monday, November 6th, 2023.Students can view their score on BigFuture School. If a student provided their mobile number on test day, they received a text message with access to the BigFuture School mobile app.
As always, students may also view their scores online if they have a personal College Board account. If students plan to eventually take the SAT then it is strongly advised that they activate their College Board account.
Students' digital PSAT/NMSQT score report provides a lot of feedback as they prepare for the SAT and for their future after high school – college, career, or wherever their path leads them.
If a student’s next steps include taking the new digital SAT in March or later, they can use their PSAT results to help prepare for that exam. More information on how you can use the information from this administration of the PSAT to prepare for the SAT can be found in the Understanding Your Digital PSAT/NMSQT Scores video. Registering for the March SAT at SHS can be done on the College Board website.

YCAL Career Exploration Programs in the Spring:
On Monday, January 22, 2024, York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) will open registration for 24 of their spring career exploration programs. These programs are held at various sites in the county and allow students an opportunity to learn more about a specific career field, interact with professionals in that field, find out about the education needed for success in that career, see various positions and pathways within that field, and ask questions to help clarify their interest in that career. These programs can also be used by juniors to meet a field experience requirement for the graduation project. Counseling Office "Communication"
It has been brought to our attention that some parents/guardians believe that they are not receiving all of our communications. For those that are unaware, the SHS Counseling Office sends out a weekly “Next Week in the Counseling Office” blurb on Friday afternoons to make parents/guardians aware of goings on in our office that may impact their students. Additionally, we send out a monthly newsletter with information pertaining to upcoming events, college and career information, academic help, parent/guardian information and more. In the event that you are not receiving these communications please feel free to sign up for them using the link below.

Check and Connect is a voluntary program that uses attendance, grade, and behavior data to look at a student’s ability to succeed in graduating high school. Informally, the Check and Connect program is designed to better the student’s success in school by helping them to improve their routines around the academic setting. By using weekly check-ins, the Check and Connect Mentor helps the student see their potential success if they apply themselves to their schooling. Often times, the Mentor can act as a counselor, tutor, and person who holds the student accountable for their actions.
Check and Connect is not just for students. The program Mentor works with teachers, administrators, and caregivers to find ways to help the student. It is a team effort to help the student succeed.
Teachers and Administrators look out for students they believe would be a good fit for the program, but there might also be concerns that they aren’t able to see. If you believe your student is not finding the motivation to come to school or stay in school, Check and Connect might be a way of helping them forward. Please contact your student’s counselor or an administrator if you would like to learn more about the program, or are interested in signing them up.

Canvas Parent App Instructions
Canvas is the Learning Management System that most SHS students will use to view and submit their classroom assignments for their in-person and digital days. All SHS students are assigned an account and parents are eligible to have an “observer” account which gives them access to view their student’s courses, assignments, due dates, etc. It is highly encouraged that parents set up this account. Additionally, this year the SHS Counseling Office also has a page on Canvas which parents can access through an observer account. For more information and instructions on how to create your observer account, please click here.
