• Susquehannock High School maintains a materials collection that complements and enhances the academic curriculum, and promotes recreational reading. The primary goals of the high school library program are to: (1) provide instruction in advanced research skills; (2) offer references that support research papers and other classroom projects; (3) instill a joy of reading; (4) provide a pleasant reading and research environment; and (5) support the classroom teacher with curriculum matching materials.

    Circulation Policy

To ensure efficient and effective operation, the following circulation policies are in effect.

    • Regular books – four weeks
    • Reserve items – two weeks
    • Reference books, magazines, and pamphlets – overnight
    • Fines for overdue regular books are five cents ($0.05) per day. Fines for overdue reference books, magazines and pamphlets are ten ($0.10) per day.  Payment is required for lost or damaged books.  As a last resort, students with outstanding obligations will have their report cards held until the obligation is paid.

    Student Use

The library is open for student use from 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.  Students who wish to do research in the library before 7:30 a.m., during lunch or during an Activity Period must get passes from the library staff prior to the planned visit.  Students do not need passes to use the library from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. or after school.

Students may come to the library during class periods with passes from the classroom teacher, check out materials, and then return to class.  Students who remain in the library from their classrooms are expected to sign in at the circulation desk and work quietly.

Students reporting from study hall should report to study hall first and sign-out for the library.  Study hall students should plan to stay the entire period in the library.  Newspaper and magazine reading is confined to the recreational reading area in the library.

All students are expected to be quietly busy with either school-related work or recreational reading when in the library.

General and specific questions about library services should be directed to the school library staff at Extension 4249.
