FAQ Responses Based on the Common Questions we have Received
Q: Does the district have a plan for meal distribution to our students in need?
A: On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, packed lunches will be available for pick up at Southern Middle School from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm curbside and is open to all children 18 and under (including pre-kindergarten children) through April 29, 2020. (There will be no meal service on Friday, April 10.) The pack will include two cold lunches and two breakfasts and is available to district students in need.
We are aware that there are some families in our district that are unable to make the trip to the Southern Middle School to pick up meals. We are able to start limited delivery to designated areas for those families unable to pick up meals. We are asking that families only sign up for this option if they have no other way to obtain the meals. We want to ensure that those families that really need this option have it available. Pre-registration for this option is required and must be completed by Wednesday, April 8 for a week’s delivery on Monday, April 13. We will do one delivery a week at this time. Q: My child’s school has an event planned during this time (i.e. musical, awards night, academic night (STEM Night), etc.). Will these events take place when school resumes?
A: All activities are currently canceled through April 30. Individual buildings, programs and activities will communicate plans for events scheduled after that date or make-up dates for those missed, as they are determined.
Q: When does distance learning start?
Starting Monday, April 6, 2020 the District will implement distance learning opportunities for all students. Students and teachers will follow the district calendar for when school will be in session remotely. Therefore, students will have remote learning April 6, 7, and 8th next week. Classes will then resume remotely on April 14, 2020.
Q: Will graduation still be held on May 29?
A: There are currently no plans to change graduation.
Q: My child attends Digital Academy; is it closed?
A: Digital Academy resumed classes on March 30, 2020.
Q: What does the closure mean for AP exams and standardized tests?
A: The PA Dept. of Education has canceled PSSAs and Keystones for this year. We will communicate any changes to SAT, ACT or AP guidance as it is communicated with our district.
Q: When does the third marking period end?
A: The third marking period ended on March 20; however, this date will be extended to April 3 to provide staff and students the opportunity to work together in order to address any incomplete assignments or make other accommodations for outstanding coursework. All FID assignments and distance learning activities will be considered in the 4th marking period. Additional information on submission of assignments will come from your child’s building. Report cards will be available to parents via Sapphire on April 9, 2020. Please contact your child’s teacher or principal via email with any questions concerning past assignments, grading, internet access, or future distance learning activities.
