October 4, 2001 MINUTES OF MEETING A meeting of the Board of Education was held in the Auditorium of the Southern Middle School on the above date. James Joy, Board President called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Dr. Joy noted that there were changes to the agenda and information on the addendum regarding Board retreat to be discussed later in the meeting. Directors present at roll call: Bruce Bauman, Erek Gass, Sandra Gayle, Jerri Groncki, James Joy, Diane Masimore, and Mary Anne Winkelman. Absent at roll call were Michael Crouse and Jay May. Mr. Crouse joined the meeting at 7:12 p.m. Also present: Thomas R. Hensley, Superintendent of Schools, William R. Murphy, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Dale R. Keagy, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, and Stephen Russell, District Solicitor. Darcie Beecroft, student representative, was also present. The press was represented by Barb Krebs, The York Dispatch and Terri Reuter, The York Daily Record. Everyone was asked to pledge the flag. MOTION was made by Mr. Bauman and seconded by Mrs. Winkelman that the Board of Education approves the agenda as follows: XI.C.2. STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT: Ms. Beecroft shared a report on student activities. (Copy in Minute Book) PUBLIC COMMENT: There were no individuals that addressed the Board. Dr. Joy noted that an executive session was held prior to the regular Board meeting to seek advice from the District solicitor. There will be no action. Dr. Joy invited the Board to attend a Board Retreat scheduled for November 12, 2001 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Southern Middle School Cafeteria. Pam Price of the Pennsylvania School Board Association will facilitate the meeting. The administration will be invited to attend this retreat. At the request of Mrs. Winkelman, Dr. Joy asked that the Finance and Budget Committee members review and comment on a draft of a community newsletter, explaining the implications of the Occupation Tax elimination referendum. Mr. Keagy will prepare the draft for committee review. Finance and Budget Motion was made by Mr. Gass and seconded by Mrs. Winkelman for approval of exonerations and refunds. Mr. Crouse abstained because a family member was included in the list. Mr. Gass stated that a grant was received for the KIOSK Project. F. Southern Regional Recreational Board copy of meeting minutes. Mr. Crouse stated that a grant was received for the SRRB to do a study of how the SRRB interfaces with the community. Mr. Crouse also noted that he would be leaving the SRRB and recommended to the Board that it needed to designate a replacement. There are two finalists for the Southern Elementary School principal position, Mr. Michael Shirey Principal, Hanover Middle School and Ms. Kendall Glouner, third grade teacher, Central York School District. All Board members excluding Mr. Bauman will be able to attend the Monday, October 15, 2001 meeting to interview these candidates. First interview will take place at 7:00 p.m., second interview at 8:00 p.m. at Southern Middle School. 2. Results of the Standard and Poors statistics from 1997 through 1999. It can be located at www.ses.standardandpoors.com. 3. Six Students qualified for the National Merit, and 28 Elementary and Middle School Students were selected to participate in the York Junior Symphony.
