Millage
Public school funding in Pennsylvania is dependent, in large part, on local taxation. Approximately 2/3 of school budgets statewide are financed by local sources (with half that amount coming from real estate taxation) and only 1/3 from federal and state sources. Southern York County finances are consistent with this profile.
Tax is calculated by multiplying a rate times the assessed value of the property. The rate is determined by the Board of School Directors; the assessed value of the property is determined by the York County Assessment Board.
Rate is stated in "millage," with one mill equaling a tenth of a percent or .001. Additional information about taxation can be found by using the navigation tool at the left to "District Administration" and then to "Tax Information."
