Special Education Parent Trainings

The Southern York County School District is pleased to provide families with access to a collection of online trainings designed to support understanding of special education processes and related topics. Parents and guardians may create an account to view these trainings at any time.
To access the trainings, please complete the following steps:

The following trainings are currently available:

  • Collaborative IEP Meetings – 7 minutes: Parents are an important part of the IEP team, and this team shares the same goal: the child’s success. This course covers keys to collaboration to support productive IEP meetings.
  • Gifted Students – 11 minutes: Gifted students have unique educational needs. This course provides an overview of gifted students and gifted education.
  • Individualized Education Programs – 12 minutes: This course explains the eight core sections of an IEP and the information contained in each section.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act – 8 minutes: This course reviews common terms and concepts related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Special Education Referral Process – 11 minutes This course outlines the steps in the special education referral process and explains what parents and guardians can expect.
  • Transition Services – 9 minutes: This course discusses the coordinated activities designed to support students with individualized education programs as they prepare for life after graduation.

We encourage families to take advantage of these resources as a way to strengthen understanding of special education services and promote meaningful collaboration between home and school.
