The Pennsylvania Department of Labor requires any minor working in the state of Pennsylvania between the ages of 14 and 18 to obtain a work permit.  All work permits in the state of Pennsylvania are now transferable from job to job in the state of Pennsylvania.  This process will only need to be completed one time.

Minors choosing to work in MD can obtain an application and instructions at http://www.dllr.state.md.us/. Click on Minor Work Permit under the Quick Links section (bottom right corner).

INSTRUCTIONS TO OBTAIN A PA WORK PERMIT

A parent signature is required on the Work Permit Application and the applicant/student must be present when the work permit is issued.

    1.  The applicant or parent may come to the Office to complete the work permit application. If the applicant or parent has proof of age, the Office will copy it for our file.  Acceptable proofs of age are birth certificate, learners permit, driver’s license, passport, baptismal certificate.  If the parent and applicant are both present and provide acceptable proof of age, the Office will issue the work permit immediately.

    2.  If no proof of age is presented, the Office will hold the application until proof of age is obtained.  Once proof of age is obtained and the application is signed by a parent, the Office will then immediately issue the work permit to the applicant/student.

    3.  If the parent is not present, the Office will complete the application and send the form home with the applicant/student to obtain a parent’s signature.  Once the signed application is returned to the Office and proof of age has been verified, the work permit will be issued immediately to the applicant/student.
