January is School Board Recognition Month!
Dear Southern Family,
January is School Board Recognition Month. States all over the country are celebrating the individuals who give so much of their time to ensure our wonderful students are getting the education they deserve. Without these nine dedicated people, we would not have an educational environment where our students are able to succeed. At last night’s School Board Meeting, we took time to thank the incredible people who give their time to serve Southern York County School District.

BOARD OF EDUCATION
Front Row: Ron Groncki, Vice President James Holley, President Robert Schefter, and Danielle Weaver-Watts. Back row: John Dorr Jr., Treasurer Bruce Bauman, Kelly Jarvis, Deborah Kalina, and Judi Fisher.
Due to social distancing, students were not able to attend the meeting in person. However, Mrs. Presley, a music teacher at Southern Elementary, worked with her students to write and record a song of thanks for the board. Students in first, second, and sixth grades recorded their parts separately and Mrs. Presley put everything together through the magic of editing. Please take a moment to watch the video here.
We would also like to remember our long time director, Allie Waldron, who passed away this month. He proudly served the Southern York County School District’s School Board from 2007-2019. The Warrior Community benefited greatly from Mr. Waldron’s leadership and he will be deeply missed.
DID YOU KNOW?
- School director elections are held every two years, on a 5-4 rotation to ensure continuity.
- All school directors are elected to four year terms.
- 95% of school directors have children who attend school in their district.
